 .  CHECKLIST AFRICAN SAFARI PARK

African Safari Park – 5 August 2010

Addressed to:

African Safari & Motel:

German Family who decided to act positive

American Egyptian Family who decided to act positive

Since 2008 I have been following closely the situations of private zoos and parks, reporting to wildlife sector.  I have had a chance to contact directly Mr. Makarem owner of African Safari who said he is keen that African Safari follows international accepted standards of a sanctuary.  Again, I received reports of appalling conditions from ex pats visiting the African Safari, June, and July.

Again I got in contact with owner, manager Mr. Sherif, reported to Wildlife Sector Dr. Ragi and further reported to EEAA.

Their was a glimpse of hope when Mr. Makarem responded and scheduled a visit yesterday 5th of August.  Mr. Sherif Hussein the manager escorted us and took notes of all, whilst 18th of June, Mr. Mouhamed the manager of African Safari took same notes.  Very few changes took place since then:  little shade unit for hyena, a hippo received treatment, the baby crocodile had water.. (there was no water at all!!).

I hereunder have based my report on the auditing form of PAAZAB, African Association of Zoos and Aquaria.

Please find hereunder the report, what I see does require the immediate attention is:

The Chimps enclosure (Small Island)

The new enclosure of American Bears.

Kangaroo's enclosure.

Please find my report, with much hope that action would be taken to lift up the appalling conditions.

Sincerely

Dina Zulfikar
